Late September
Amanda and I drove to Floyd Bennet Field to meet up with
the Amateur Astronomers
having a starparty out there. We were kind of late because
I was being a flake, and when we got there only two people
were left. Fortunately they were the organizers and had big
scopes. Steve let me take the
shots of Jupiter you see below. Trying to shoot a planet
through my Dobs is a futile endeavor. The Moon shot was taken
from my Brooklyn fire escape. Unfortunately the either scope
was not as well focused as it was for my other sessions or
the air was thicker than I thought. In the Jupiter shots all
you can see is the planetary disc and some bright spots which
are moons. Optically we could see quite a lot of surface detail
and 4 moons. Unfortunately we didn't have much time to mess
with the camera.
All images were taken with a modified B/W Connectix Quickcam at 320x240 and later pasted together with the GIMP. The full-size images are PNGs.
